Kicking it off like a %u201CLivewire%u201D

May 1, 2008 / by KGX

So I figured instead of always going on and ranting about how bad things are today and always being negative, I’m going to do my best to stay positive.  Now I’m not saying that I’m always going to be happy-go-lucky and pissing rainbows here but for the time being and for the sake of my sanity, I’m going to try and keep these positive.

Now due to my lack of interest in the media today and my apathy towards many things going on in pro-wrestling, I figured I wax some nostalgia.  Expect me to do this a lot by the way.

Remember when you were young and you couldn’t wait for the weekend?  Yeah, I couldn’t either.  The one thing that I loved about the weekend was the fact that I knew for two days straight I was guaranteed at least one hour of wrestling a day.  When I was real young I remember waking up to catch the old Saturday morning Superstars show (which later was moved to Sundays and became a re-cut version of Livewire which I‘m getting to).  Then came the show I couldn’t miss, WWF Livewire.  A one hour show recapping the events that took place in the WWF.  Now because Raw was on past my bedtime(ugh) I settled for the chopped and sliced version.  What made this some-what good was the fact that I got to see all the high spots of the night.  Everything that made Raw good(remember those days?) I got to see without any of the dragging moments.  The best part about it was the host.  And no I don’t mean Todd Pettengill, I mean Sunny.  Boy oh boy was she something…Sorry.  Anyways, we later saw the sights of good ol’ Dok Hendrix and the boss man Vinnie Mac himself at times.  But man Sunny was great.  Back on track, due to the fact that things in wrestling were getting “edgy” my mom went and did the thing that damn near ruined my childhood.  She took wrestling away from my brother and me.  Well unbeknownst to her, my brother being the sneaky bastard he is knew the pass code to unlock the USA network.  So when she went off to the market or church, pro-wrestling made its return to the Graham household (thanks Nick).  Of course this usually led to my brother and I squaring off and fighting which was the whole reason my mom blocked the channel, but hey at least I got my hour of wrestling.

More or less had it not been for Livewire I would not have been able to enjoy wrestling throughout the beginning years of my life.  I feel that that was a crucial element in my life because had I not had it, I would not have become the die hard fan that I am today.  (Interesting enough Happiest Days of our Lives by Pink Floyd just kicked on)  I was pulled in and hooked to pro-wrestling at such a young age that it has become nearly a necessity to me now.  However, how different things would be if I was able to enjoy the stuff on TV now a days as I did when I was young.  Thank god for Indy shows.  Yeah, I’ll get to those some day. So until next time kiddies you continue watching, I’ll continue writing.
